Dig into Drumming

Picture
Create new rhythms in a safe circle of friends. If you are put off by high-pitched sounds and feel isolated from others, this is the course for you.  Drum circles help you to develop communication skills and to become part of an exciting community of sound. One Hidden Wings student said after his first drumming session: "I think I made my first friend." Join facilitator, Aimee Carrol, to explore rhythm through percussion on specialized drums donated by premiere drum maker, Remo Belli. Remo's drums are designed to produce a bandwidth that simulates a heart beat; students who experience these sounds and rhythms seem to find new freedom of expression. This path-breaking Hidden Wings program is also supported through the generous and active participation of legendary drummer, Mickey Hart. Mickey has utilized drumming to help those afflicted with the limitations of aging, such as Alzeimers and dementia. Now, for the first time, and in partnership with Hidden Wings, he is pioneering drumming as a way of assisting young adults with language challenges. We welcome you to this exciting acoustical world.
